Introduction to the Korean War
In 1950 as the international community was coming to terms with the aftermath of World War II a new conflict broke out at the edge of the Asian continent.
On June 25, 1950 at 4 a.m., 70,000 North Korean troops crossed the thirty-eighth
parallel. President Truman appealed to the United Nations to take police action
against the unwarranted attack. Hence, under the name of the United Nations, the
United States was able to send troops and forces. On June 29, the North Korean Army, Korean People's Army, pressed southward and captured Seoul.
